Artist Statement

This four-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback became an NFL icon and legend during his playing days. With a career spanning 16 seasons (14 as a San Francisco 49er, his last 2 as a Kansas City Chief), Montana is still considered by many to be one of the best, if not the best, quarterback of all time. He was the first 3-time Super Bowl MVP, a two-time league MVP (1989, 1990), and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000. “Joe Cool”, as he was nicknamed, was the epitome of “cool-in-the-pocket”. The field general of coach Bill Wash’s legendary and innovative “West Coast” offense, Montana orchestrated numerous clutch performances that led to the San Francisco 49er’s to become the NFL’s team of the ’80s. His decision-making and mastery of delivering passes in the perfect place to allow his receivers and running backs to run after the catch made the 49er offense a thing of beauty to watch.

The combination of Walsh and Montana changed the game. They were the Belichick and Brady of their day.

The Blueprint to Perfection painting was created to represent what can be achieved when the right player, combined with the right coach, gets plugged into the right system. Montana was the right quarterback at the right time for Walsh’s innovative offensive schemes. With his football IQ, cool demeanor, and the right talent around him, Montana truly became a Blueprint to Perfection for an NFL quarterback.
